# Free electrician invoice template

Electrical work is billed on a mix of things: your time, the materials you bought, a permit and sometimes an inspection. A good invoice keeps those apart so the customer sees what each part cost. The template below has those lines in place, ready for your own prices.

Change the example, add your license number and client, then save the PDF straight from this page. No account, and the data stays in your browser. For a rewire or panel upgrade, send a [quote](https://jiffy-invoice.com/quote-generator) first and invoice from it afterwards.

## Fill it in and save as PDF

The lines are examples for electricians. Change anything, add your details and download the PDF. Nothing you type leaves this browser.

## What to put on an invoice for electricians

- Your electrical contractor license number, which customers, landlords and insurers often ask for
- The job address and the date or date range of the work
- Licensed labor and apprentice labor as separate lines, each with hours and rate
- Materials itemized: panels, breakers, wire, boxes, fixtures, with quantity and unit price
- The permit and inspection fees if you pulled them, shown as their own line
- Any deposit already paid, so the balance due is clear, and the sales tax on materials where it applies
- A line stating the work was done to code and your warranty period

## How electricians bill

Small repairs and service calls are billed by the hour plus a trip charge, with materials added at cost plus a markup. Installs such as a panel upgrade, an EV charger or recessed lighting are usually quoted at a fixed price, because the customer wants one number before the walls are opened.

Commercial work and larger remodels often bill in stages: a deposit to order materials and pull the permit, a progress payment after rough-in, and the balance after inspection. Show each stage on the invoice and subtract what has been paid. Apprentice or helper time is typically billed at a lower rate than journeyman time, so list them separately.

## Tips to get paid faster

1. Pull the permit and put its cost on the invoice at your price. Customers accept a permit fee far more easily than a vague "admin" charge.
2. Bill the balance the day the inspection passes, while the result is fresh and the customer is still happy about their new panel.
3. Keep material receipts and list the big items by name. Panels and fixtures are the lines customers ask about.
4. For multi-stage jobs, send each stage invoice the same day the milestone is reached. See [online payments](https://jiffy-invoice.com/features/online-payments) for taking card or bank transfer on each one.
5. If a commercial client works on net 30, still state the due date on the invoice and use [payment reminders](https://jiffy-invoice.com/features/payment-reminders) a few days before it.

## Common invoice mistakes

- Billing labor as one lump of hours when part of it was a lower-paid apprentice
- Leaving the permit off the invoice and eating the cost
- Not showing a deposit already received, which makes the customer think the total is wrong

## Questions

### What goes on an electrician's invoice?

Your name, license number and contact details, the customer and job address, the date, labor by hours and rate, itemized materials, permit fees, tax if it applies, the total and payment instructions.

### Should I show materials separately from labor?

Yes. Separate lines are easier to check, easier to defend and make it simple to see your markup is fair. They also help if the customer claims the cost on insurance.

### How do I invoice a job in stages?

Send a deposit invoice, then a progress invoice at each milestone, and a final invoice for the balance. Each one lists the work to date and the amounts already paid.

### Can I use this template for free?

Yes. Fill it in on this page and download the PDF. No account is needed and nothing is sent to our servers.
