# Free fence installation invoice template

Fence work is priced by the linear foot, with gates, corners and old fence removal added on top. The template below bills a six foot privacy fence around a backyard, with a gate, post concrete and a permit fee shown as separate lines, so the customer sees how the total was built.

Edit it for your own materials and rates, save the PDF and send it when the last picket is on. No account is needed and your data stays in your browser. If you quote first, a signed [estimate](https://jiffy-invoice.com/estimate-app) locks in the footage and the style.

## What to put on an invoice for fence installers

- The property address and the fence run: total linear feet, height and style
- Material and type: cedar, pine, vinyl, chain link or aluminum, with the picket style
- Gates counted and priced one by one, with width and hardware
- Removal and disposal of the old fence, priced by the linear foot
- Extras for terrain: rock, slopes, tree roots or extra concrete
- Permit fee and utility locate, passed through at cost
- Deposit received and the balance due, plus the warranty on workmanship

## How fence installers bill

The base price is per linear foot, installed. It depends on the material, the height and the difficulty of the ground, and it always includes posts, rails and the labor to set them. Gates are billed as separate items, because a single gate can cost as much as ten feet of fence. Removal of an old fence is its own line, per foot or as a flat price.

Most fence jobs are paid in two parts. A deposit, commonly half, covers the materials order, and the balance is due when the job is done. Keep the deposit visible on the invoice so the customer sees the remaining amount. A [reminder](https://jiffy-invoice.com/features/payment-reminders) is easy to send when a customer lets the final payment slide.

## Tips to get paid faster

1. Walk the line with the customer before you order materials. Confirm where the property line is, and put it in writing that they are responsible for it.
2. Price rocky ground and slopes by the hole. It protects you from digging through bedrock on a flat footage price.
3. List each gate with its width and hardware. Customers often change their minds about a gate later.
4. Pass the permit fee through at cost, on its own line. It is not a markup and customers accept it.
5. Take photos of the finished run and the gate latch. They help with warranty questions and make good proof for your next customer.

## Common invoice mistakes

- Quoting a flat footage price without checking the terrain, then eating the extra concrete
- Not writing who owns the property line decision
- Hiding the old fence removal inside the install price
