Free roofing invoice template
A roofing job is priced by the roof, but the customer wants to see what they paid for: the tear-off, the underlayment, the shingles, the flashing and the cleanup. The template below breaks a typical re-roof into those lines so you can replace them with your own scope and prices.
Fill it in on this page, save the PDF and send it when the last bundle is off the roof. No account is needed and your data stays in your browser. If you have not yet agreed the price, start with an estimate your client can sign on their phone.

What goes on it
What to put on an invoice for roofers
- Your roofing license and insurance details, since homeowners and insurers check for them
- The property address and a clear description of the scope: tear-off, re-roof, repair or flashing only
- Quantities in squares (100 square feet) so the customer can compare against the bid
- Materials by type and brand, such as the shingle line, underlayment, flashing and vents
- Disposal and dumpster as their own line, and any decking replacement priced per sheet
- Deposits and progress payments received, with the balance due
- The workmanship warranty and the manufacturer's warranty, stated clearly
How you bill
How roofers bill
Re-roofs are quoted per square or as a lump sum for the whole roof, based on a measured area. The invoice then shows the same scope with its line items so the customer can see how the total adds up. Hidden problems come up after tear-off: rotted decking is the classic, and it is normally billed per sheet as a change order, written up before the extra work begins.
Payment often runs in steps: a deposit when the contract is signed to order materials, then the balance on completion. For insurance jobs the homeowner may pay their deductible while the insurer pays the rest, so state who owes what. A signed estimate that turns into the invoice keeps the scope and numbers consistent.

Tips to get paid faster
- Price decking replacement per sheet in your contract and on the invoice. A fixed unit price avoids arguments once the old roof is off.
- Photograph the roof before and after, and attach or mention them. Photos settle most disputes about workmanship and extra work.
- Invoice the day the final inspection passes or the crew leaves, not at the end of the week.
- On insurance work, split the invoice into the deductible and the insurance portion so each party sees their share.
- Chase the balance politely but quickly. A payment reminder after the due date is easier than a phone call.
Watch out
Common invoice mistakes
- Billing extra decking or flashing without a written change order from the customer
- Using a single "materials" line that hides the shingle line, where the customer expects to see the brand
- Not stating the warranty length, which is the first thing a buyer checks

FAQ
Questions
How do I write a roofing invoice?
List your business and license, the customer and property address, the scope, then lines for tear-off, underlayment, shingles, flashing, vents and disposal, each with quantity and price. Show deposits received and the balance due.
What is a roofing square?
A square is 100 square feet of roof. Most roofers measure and price in squares, so showing the quantity in squares lets the customer compare the invoice to your bid.
How should I bill extra work found during a job?
Agree it in writing as a change order before you do it, then add it as its own line on the invoice with the unit price and quantity.
