Payment reminders

Automatic invoice reminders: polite first, firm when it counts.

Chasing money is the worst part of the job. Set your reminder schedule once and Jiffy follows up for you: a friendly nudge before the due date, a firmer note when it passes, a final notice if it has to. Every reminder carries the payment link.

How automatic invoice reminders work, on Pro

You set a schedule of up to four steps, counted from the due date. Each step has a tone, a subject and a message. When an invoice is sent with reminders on, Jiffy follows the schedule for that invoice and emails your client at each step, with the amount due now and a link to pay it. You get a notification every time one goes out.

The moment the invoice is paid, the schedule stops. Your client never gets a reminder for money they already sent.

A reminder schedule that fits: before, after, firm, final

Start with the ready-made schedule and change any step:

  • Two days before the due date: a friendly heads-up.
  • Three days after: a friendly reminder.
  • Ten days after: a firmer reminder.
  • Twenty-four days after: a final notice.

How to ask for payment politely

Most late payers simply forgot. A good reminder is short, names the invoice, the amount and the due date, and makes paying one tap away. Jiffy’s standard texts do exactly that, in a friendly, firm or final tone, and you can rewrite any of them with fields for the client’s name, the invoice number and the amount due.

Every reminder goes out in your client’s language, the same as the invoice. So a client in Mexico and a client in Germany each read a reminder that sounds like it was written for them.

Late fees, only if you said so up front

You can add a late fee to a step, as a fixed amount or a percentage with a cap. Jiffy only charges it on invoices that carried your late-fee terms when they were first sent, and never more than those terms say. Fees stay outside the invoice total and tax, show up as a separate line on the payment page, and you can waive one with a tap. Rules for charging fees to consumers differ per country, so check yours.

You decide, per invoice and per client

Pause the reminders on one invoice while you sort something out with the client. Send the next step right now, or skip one. Turn automatic reminders off for a client you would rather call. Each invoice shows a timeline of what went out and what comes next.

Payment reminders on every plan

On Free you send a reminder by hand from the invoice, or remind every late client at once. The automatic schedule and late fees come with Pro and Ultra; see pricing. Reminders work best together with online payments, so the client can pay the moment they read it. Coming from another app? See how Jiffy compares with Invoice Simple and Invoice2go.

FAQ

Good questions.

When do the reminders stop?

As soon as the invoice is paid, or when you pause them, turn them off for that client or remove the invoice. A paid invoice never gets a reminder.

Can I write my own reminder text?

Yes. Every step has its own subject and message, with fields for the client’s name, the invoice number and the amount due. Or keep Jiffy’s standard text.

Do I have to charge late fees?

No. Late fees are off unless you add them to a step, and they only apply to invoices that showed your terms when you first sent them.

Are reminders included in Free?

Reminders by hand are, on every plan. The automatic schedule and late fees are part of Pro and Ultra.
