Free tile installation invoice template
Tile jobs are priced per square foot of tile set, but the real work is in the prep: demolition, backer board, waterproofing and leveling. The template below bills a bathroom floor and shower surround with each of those steps on its own line, so the customer sees why the labor costs what it does.
Edit it for your own rates, save the PDF and send it when the grout has cured. No account is needed and nothing is uploaded. For bigger remodels, a signed estimate gives you a fixed scope to bill against.

What goes on it
What to put on an invoice for tile installers
- The job address and the rooms or surfaces tiled: floor, wall, shower, backsplash
- Square footage per surface, with demolition, backer board and waterproofing as separate lines
- Tile size and type, and whether you or the customer supplied it
- Setting materials: thinset, leveler, grout, caulk and sealer
- Specialty work billed on its own: niches, pan, mosaic, diagonal patterns, large format
- The overage allowance for cuts and breakage
- Curing time before grouting, sealing and use, and the workmanship warranty
How you bill
How tile installers bill
Tile setting is quoted per square foot, and the rate rises with difficulty: large format, diagonal, mosaic and herringbone patterns take more time than a straight lay. Prep work is billed separately, either per square foot or as a fixed line, because a floor that needs leveling or a shower that needs a new pan is a different job from a straight swap.
Say clearly whether the price includes the tile. Many customers buy their own tile and ask you to set it, and the invoice should say so, along with the allowance for cuts. Jobs this size usually run on a deposit and a balance, so a payment link on the invoice helps get the final payment before the next job starts.

Tips to get paid faster
- Measure the area and add the cut allowance on the invoice. Customers who order too little tile blame the installer.
- Bill demolition, backer board and waterproofing as separate lines. They are the reason a tile job costs more than the tile.
- Price large format and patterns higher per foot and say so. It explains the number before anyone asks.
- Write down the grout curing time on the invoice so nobody mops or showers too early.
- Take a photo of the substrate before you cover it. If something fails later, it shows the work underneath was sound.
Watch out
Common invoice mistakes
- Pricing a straight lay and then setting a herringbone pattern for the same rate
- Not stating who supplied the tile, which turns every breakage into an argument
- Charging one price for prep that depends on what is under the old floor

FAQ
Questions
How do I price a tile installation?
Charge a rate per square foot for setting the tile, plus separate lines for demolition, backer board, waterproofing, leveling, grout and sealer. Raise the rate for large format, diagonal or mosaic work.
What should a tile invoice include?
Your details, the customer and address, square footage per surface, prep and setting lines, who supplied the tile, the overage allowance, warranty and the total due.
Do I bill for tile I did not supply?
No, only for setting it. Write on the invoice that the customer supplied the tile and how much overage you allowed.
