Free handyman invoice template
Handyman jobs are a collection of small tasks on one visit: a leaking tap, a loose door, a shelf, a patched wall. The invoice should list each task so the customer sees all the little things you fixed, and why the bill is what it is. The template below does that with a minimum charge, hourly labor and materials.
Change the example, save the PDF and send it while you are still on the property. No account, nothing uploaded. If a job turns out to be plumbing or electrical, there are templates for those too, like the plumbing invoice template.

What goes on it
What to put on an invoice for handymen
- The service address and the date of the visit
- A minimum or trip charge, because short visits still cost you the drive
- Each task as its own line with a flat price or the hours spent
- Materials and hardware, either itemized or as a clearly labeled total with receipts available
- Your hourly rate, so it is clear how any extra time is billed
- A short note about what was done, which doubles as a record for the customer
- Your contact details and how to pay
How you bill
How handymen bill
Most handymen combine a minimum charge with an hourly rate. The minimum covers travel and the first hour or two, so a quick fix does not lose money. Beyond that, time is billed in half-hour or hour steps. Some tasks, like hanging a door or mounting a TV, work better at a flat price because customers expect a number up front.
Materials are bought for the job and passed on at cost plus a markup, or covered by a flat "materials and hardware" line when the amounts are small. For bigger or multi-day work, send a short quote first. Repeat customers like a property manager or landlord are often invoiced monthly for all the small jobs they sent you.

Tips to get paid faster
- List every task, even tiny ones. A customer who sees six fixes feels the value; one line of "labor, 3 hours" feels like a guess.
- Keep a minimum charge and say so before you arrive. It filters out jobs that would lose money.
- Photograph the work before and after, and keep receipts for materials in case a customer wants proof.
- Invoice on the spot from your phone, and offer card payment through a link. See online payments.
- For landlords and property managers, bill monthly and put the unit number on every line.
Watch out
Common invoice mistakes
- Quoting by the hour for a task you have never done, then running over and absorbing the difference
- Skipping the trip charge on short visits, which makes small jobs unprofitable
- Not itemizing materials on bigger repairs, so the bill looks padded
