What goes on it
What to put on an invoice for junk removal crews
- The pickup address and a short description of what was removed
- The load size: minimum load, quarter, half, three quarter or full truck, ideally with cubic yards
- Items that carry their own fee: mattresses, appliances with refrigerant, tires, televisions, paint
- Extra labor for stairs, long carries or a second crew member
- Dump or transfer station fees if you pass them on at cost
- What was donated or recycled, which many customers care about
- Whether the job was a flat quote or priced by the final load
How you bill
How junk removal is billed
The standard method is by truck volume. Customers see the pile, you load it and you charge for the space it fills, often with fixed prices for a quarter, a half and a full truck. A minimum load fee covers small pickups. Specialty items such as refrigerators, mattresses and tires add a fixed disposal fee because the dump charges you for them.
Some crews quote a flat price from photos, others price after loading and tell the customer the number before they leave. Whichever you use, write the load size on the invoice. It is the single line people ask about, and a clear one saves a dispute.
Get paid faster
Tips to get paid faster
- Agree the price before you pick up the first item, then repeat it on the invoice. Customers rarely argue with a number they already approved.
- Show the load as a fraction of the truck, for example "one half". It makes the price feel earned.
- Put e-waste and appliance fees on separate lines. They are not a markup, and the customer can see that.
- Mention donations and recycling in the notes. It builds repeat and referral business.
- Take a photo of the empty space when you finish and keep it with the invoice.
Watch out
Common invoice mistakes
- Pricing after the pile grew because the customer added things from the basement
- Hiding dump fees inside a bigger load price, then losing money on a heavy job
